For more than 30 years, the Lexus ES has been known for its smooth ride, quiet cabin, and luxurious features. But what sets it out from other midsize luxury sedans is its high reliability and practicality. The ES is one of the very first Lexus nameplates and today, its 2023 model sets out to have all the aforementioned qualities in our review:

Features

The 2023 Lexus ES is part of the 7th generation of Lexus’s iconic sports sedan. It comes with 5 trim levels; two of them are high-performance F Sport variants. You also get to choose from 2 gasoline engines and there’s also a hybrid offered separately. You’ll see that all the variants are quite well-equipped.

Powertrain and Numbers

The motor on the 2023 Lexus ES250 is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 203 hp and 184 lb-ft. Meanwhile, the ES350 comes with a 3.5-liter V6 which delivers 302 hp and 267 lb-ft. Both of them offer an 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The 2023 ES350 is able to clock a 0-60 mph time of just 6 seconds. This puts it on par with several sports cars. If you get the ES250, it has an 8.1-second acceleration time. It puts it amongst the top cars in its class.

Just because this is a luxurious and powerful car doesn’t mean that it’ll deplete your fuel budget. The ES250 2023 can manage up to 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. The ES350 can do up to 22 mpg city and 32 highway.

Interior and Technology

The Lexus ES 2023 has a dashboard design that’s modern and elegant. It comes with comfy and supportive seats, with plenty of room for the 5 passengers in the front and rear. The material quality is quite high and it gets even better on the higher trims.

The all-new Lexus ES has a spacious trunk with a lot of cargo space, which is larger than many of its competitors. There are also several small-item storage spaces throughout the cabin – aka the cubby storage.

2023 ES250/350
The entry-level model comes with a Perforated NuLuxe interior trim. In terms of tech, it gets you dual-zone climate control, push-button ignition, a powered moonroof, and 10-way power-adjustable front seats.

The infotainment system consists of an 8-inch touchscreen and a 10-speaker stereo. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. Bluetooth, wifi hotspot capabilities, and several power outlets are also offered.

You get goods such as automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian and cyclist detection), lane-departure warning (w/lane-keep assistance), a backup camera, blind-spot monitoring (w/rear cross-traffic alerts), and adaptive cruise control.

With the all-new Lexus ES F Sport Design, you get a wood trim. Also included are a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless charging for phones, and the Lexus memory seat system. The other changes are on the outside.

The 2023 ES Luxury adds a quilted and perforated semi-aniline leather–trimmed interior, a wood trim with ambient lighting, and a wooden steering wheel. It also brings you 14-way power adjustable front seats, a driver’s-seat power cushion extender, and parking assists.

2023 ES350 F Sport Handling
The ultra-high-performance ES F Sport Handling is the most unique model here with its Hadori aluminum trim. You also get a custom F Sport perforated shift knob, aluminum pedals and steering wheel. It drops some features to make it lighter and more athletic.

The 2023 ES Ultra Luxury trim lives up to its name as it adds a lot more to the aforementioned Luxury trim. You get a 10.2-inch head-up display, powered trunk, a panoramic view monitor, and automated emergency braking with parking assists.

Exterior and Driving

The 2023 Lexus ES has a bold and modern look that gives off a sophisticated and upscale vibe. It’s low and wide with sharp headlights and wide tail lights. You also get a set of stylish rims on each trim. The base has 17-inch alloys, while the Luxury and Ultra Luxury have 18-inchers with varying designs and finishes.

The F Sport models come with their own front bumper, grille surround and rear spoiler. They also feature unique 19-inch alloys.

The 2023 Lexus ES gets a score of 87 out of 100 from JD Power, who’s also ranked it #1 on the list of midsize luxury sedans. Consumer Reports also expects it to be “more reliable than the average new car.” But there’s a lot more offered here than the stamp of reliability.

You also get the finest warranties in the luxury segment. Lexus gets you a limited warranty of 4 years/50k miles, and a powertrain warranty of 6 years/70k miles. You also get complimentary maintenance for 1 year/10k miles.

Verdict

The 2023 Lexus ES is a jack-of-all-trades then. It is stunning no matter how you look at it and it drives like a dream. It gets you a choice of two powerful engines and high-performance trim levels. You get a roomy cabin and stellar storage capabilities.
